**The 8-week Certificated Introduction to Advice:
Run over 8 consecutive Mondays from February 1st, this course aims to provide the knowledge and skills required to be a competent generalist adviser. After the full eight weeks, competence in each delegate will be assessed via a multiple choice test. Once a high standard of competence has been proven through this test, a certificate will be awarded jointly by Plymouth CAB and Plymouth City Council in recognition.
The 8 weeks comprise:
1st February: General Introduction to giving advice*. Tutor – Jane Guy
8th February: Introduction to Welfare Benefits**.
Tutor – Sue Archard, Session Supervisor, Plymouth CAB
15th February: Introduction of Housing and Homelessness**.
Tutor – Catherine Marsh, Session Supervisor, Plymouth CAB
22nd February: Introduction to other advice subjects; consumer, asylum seekers, family and personal, and equality, diversity and discrimination**.
Tutor – Jane Guy, Training Manager, Plymouth CAB
1st March: Introduction to Debt**.
Tutor – Steve Meakin, Money Advice Co-ordinator, Devon & Cornwall
8th March: Introduction to Employment Advice**.
Tutor – Bruce Abbott, Caseworker, Devon Law Centre
15th March: Introduction to Benefits from HMRC (tax credits) and PCC (HB & CTB)**.
Tutor – Julie Jackson, Welfare Benefits Caseworker, Plymouth CAB
22nd March: General Conclusion*.
